THE PROCESS

The Challenge

Hydrogen mobility for heavy duty vehicles requires infrastructure that is robust, safe and available every day. Yet until now, even CaetanoBus, part of Toyota Caetano Portugal and one of Europe’s leading hydrogen bus manufacturers, faced a major hurdle: every time it needed to refuel a bus for delivery, the process had to be done off site, generating additional costs and inefficiencies in its operations.

The Idea

The solution was clear: Build a Hydrogen Station in Ovar, directly integrated into CaetanoBus’s industrial ecosystem. A station designed not only to be powerful and reliable, but also to be user-friendly, making hydrogen accessible to CaetanoBus on a daily basis. Initially dimensioned at 350 bar to meet operational needs, the system was engineered to be scalable to 700 bar — ready to refuel next-gen passenger vehicles such as the Toyota Mirai.

The Execution

Delivering such a station required the combined expertise of the Petrotec Group.
  • Hellonext acted as the technology provider, supplying both the hardware and software for the Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS).
  • Neertec, the Group’s specialist in Hydrogen, EV and Battery infrastructures, ensured seamless installation and long-term maintenance.
Together with CaetanoBus, we created Portugal’s most advanced Hydrogen Refuelling Station powered by the CORE H2 control system and the AXON H2 dispenser. The result: A refuelling process that is not only safe and reliable, but also intuitive, guided, and designed around the best possible UX.
